Leukemia is a cancer long thought to arise from the blood-forming system, and it usually shows symptoms such as exceedingly higher white blood cells. Consequently, the normal blood formation functions are impaired, and problems like anemia, bleeding, and reduction in immunity occur. Various cases of people who only went to the hospital for routine dental cleanings and afterward were diagnosed with leukemia due to blood abnormalities are quite common.

  • 3. Asthenia accompanying with abnormal decrease in physical strength
  • 4. Immunity is weakened leading to recurring infections

Doctors are warning that bleeding from the gums, which we usually consider just local symptoms, may be the root causes that are connected to the health of the blood system. When the body shows four abnormal signs, it can be an early alarm of leukemia that should not be ignored.

1. Frequent bleeding, bleeding hard to stop

If healthy people’s gums bleed, the major causes are usually periodontitis, vigorous brushing, lack of vitamin C, and the like. However, if the gums bleed repeatedly and even bleeding occurs at a minor injury, and the wound is difficult to heal, then it may be a leukemia signal and we must be on the alert.

Leukemia leads to a significant decrease in the number of platelets and blood’s clotting ability, which causes the patient to suffer from frequent bleeding. In some cases, the patients are experiencing extremely heavy bleeding and also have difficulties in stopping the bleeding after tooth cleaning, extraction, or any minor surgery. Therefore, they need to have their blood routine checked immediately.

2. Skin bruises with small red dots

In patients with leukemia, capillaries become extremely fragile, and thrombocytopenia is the main cause that negatively affects hemostasis which, in turn, leads to the posterior surface developing widespread bruises or ecchymosis. Moreover, patients with leukemia are likely to have bleeding spots similar to the size of a needle tip occurring on their skin which are called “skin purpura”, these are very small red dots that neither protrude from the surface of the skin nor disappear when rubbed. If skin abnormalities that have existed for a long time, the possibility of blood system disorders should not be overlooked.

3. Asthenia accompanying with abnormal decrease in physical strength

Leukemia development that suppresses the production of normal red blood cells results in the occurrence of anemia. The main features of anemia are pale complexion, dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath, and difficulty concentrating. Many patients, even if they have had enough rest, still lack energy, are easily tired, and have a decreased capacity to carry out daily activities. For instance, activities that involve physical work that used to be done quickly and easily can now become quite strenuous, and even a short walk or going up the stairs can make one breathe fast and feel short of breath.

If such a thing is likely to happen in the near future, a blood test for anemia and blood system diseases should be done as early as possible.

4. Immunity is weakened leading to recurring infections

Leukemia not only impairs the functions of red blood cells and platelets, but it also changes the normal pattern of white blood cells and damages the body’s immune system. The abnormal growth of white blood cells can lead to the decrease of immunity, causing patients to become easily infected with bacteria, viruses, or fungi. For instance, frequent colds, continuous fever, sore throat, lung infection, recurrent mouth ulcers, and even minor wounds that are easily infected are some of the cases.

This decrease in immunity is usually not a short period one, but rather a long-term and gradual worsening situation with exacerbations. If diseases are frequent and recovery is only slow, a detailed check should be taken to identify the health problem correctly.

Generally speaking, early stages of leukemia can be spreading in a hidden manner and may be mistaken for simple diseases, and numerous common symptoms might be the signs of blood system diseases. Suppose a man that is he or she is witnessing these recent unexplained changes that stop not. In that case, the person should come to the hospital as soon as possible to undergo routine blood tests to make early diagnoses and treatments besides preventing the likelihood of late-stage treatment.
