In recent times, the sudden deaths of young and middle-aged people have been frequently reported on the Internet, among which sudden cardiac death is the most common.

These events force us to pay attention to the trend of myocardial infarction getting younger, what are its causes?

1. “It seems like nothing happened, why did you die suddenly?”

Sudden death means death occurring within 24 hours of the symptoms beginning. The first thought everyone has about sudden death is that it happens to people very far away from us, but it is not so. According to the cardiovascular health and disease report of my country, The number of sudden cardiac deaths in our country is as high as 544,000 per year, which makes it the leading cause of death worldwide. Put another way, one person falls every minute, and the rate of rescue success after sudden death outside the hospital is less than 3%.

Compared to women, the percentage of men who die suddenly is much higher. There is research conducted that shows the risk of sudden death in men is about three times that in women, and this difference gradually diminishes with age. As a person gets older, the risk of sudden death continues to grow, most of the sudden death cases in our country are, therefore, elderly people over 65 years old.

Sudden death is a sudden disease, but it is not something that happens by chance. A report on the results of the autopsy of 5,516 sudden death cases in our country states that the population of sudden death has certain regularities.

I. Sudden cardiac death most common

Non-cardiogenic factors are responsible for about 60% of sudden deaths, and the number of such deaths that occur every year worldwide is up to 7 million, and the majority of patients with sudden cardiac death are those without any symptoms before it happens suddenly.

II. Chronic diseases are “accelerators”

The sudden death victims were suffering from hypertension (37.95%), heart disease (30.02%), diabetes (23.79%), and a few had hyperlipidemia, hyperthyroidism, etc. These chronic diseases are like “bombs” hidden in the body, the outbreak of which can happen at any time.

III. Too agitated, too tired

The research revealed that around half of the sudden death population had been either over-excited or overworked during their lifetime, with over-excited 26% and overworked 25%.

I assume everyone has come across incidents of the person being “angry” to death, which is not exaggeration. The study that was conducted by a group of academicians from Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University claims that in the case of anger or other strong emotions, the upregulating bone marrow leukocytes will be generated to promote coronary artery inflammation and plaque vulnerability, thus allowing cardiovascular emergencies to be easily triggered.

And “when overworked, the heart cannot get adequate rest, and it is easy to have signs such as rising blood pressure and accelerated heart rate. In severe cases, angina pectoris or even sudden death may occur”.

IV. Age of high incidence 30-63 years

Individuals in this age bracket often find themselves juggling between societal and family demands which can leave them neglecting their health. Alternatively, constant working overtime and staying up late, unhealthy eating, lack of exercise, etc. do not show the goodness of this bad kind of living gradually eating away at your wellbeing.

2. “Before sudden death, pay attention to these warning signs!”

The heart is going to give the body some warning signs before sudden death. You ought to take these symptoms seriously once they occur

I. “Precordial pain”

At the initial stage, abnormal squeezing and constricting pain in the precordium, spreading to the left shoulder, left arm, etc., and if the duration is >15 minutes, definitely be on the lookout that it could be a sudden death precursor..

II. Chest tightness and chest pain

It is unlikely that anyone’s first reaction to chest tightness would be to rest; most probably, it is a signal of coronary heart disease. If there is chest pain during the feeling of chest tightness you should seek medical help immediately.

III. Difficulty breathing

Symptoms such as shortness of breath and strenuousness can come out of the blue, and there may be an occasion when they go along with wheezing, which, in turn, may be due to a rapid decrease in heart function causing congestion in the lungs to impact gas exchange.

IV. Sudden fainting

Syncope is one of the more widespread signs of sudden death, which is most likely a result of the insufficient blood flow to the brain caused by the slowed and stopped heartbeat. You should definitely visit the doctor if you get syncope quite often or if you have suffered syncope for a very long time.

In the case of sudden death, the very first rescue time is 4 minutes Inside , if the heart stops for >4 minutes, brain tissue damage will be irreversible, and if the heart is stopped for more than 10 minutes, death of the brain will occur.

In case of a myocardial infarction among your loved ones, the foremost step to transport is to Call 120 emergency without any delay , check whether the patient is having a cardiac arrest, continue with CPR until the ambulance reaches and if there is AED , use it to defibrillate the patient at once.

3. To prevent sudden death, doctors give 5 suggestions

Sudden death is a thing that is always near us. By doing these things every day, you will greatly help in the prevention of sudden death.

I. Exercise appropriately

Especially for some people, who have not practiced for a long time, the exercise should always be moderate. Don’t get too intense as soon as it comes up, and thus you can easily overload your heart and increase your risk of sudden death.

II. Don’t be too tired

Overwork and stress in the long run will not be good for your body as it might make it more stressed. You should always give yourself the opportunity to relax in your daily routine.

III. Quit “smoking and alcohol addiction”

Nicotine in cigarettes is the one that causes blood vessels to constrict and even make them spasm. Alcohol can make the heart beat faster and blood pressure rise, and from that, there is no far way to cardiac adverse events. In case you want to prevent sudden death, quitting smoking and drinking should be on your priority list.

IV. Emotional stability

Extreme mental stress can ironically leave your body in a reduced state as well, and the result will probably be an increase of blood pressure and the heart having to work harder. Always trying to control your emotions, talking more, and finally, knowing how to relax could be the solution to your problem.

V. Ensure adequate sleep

Late night habits can lower your immunity, make you brain and heart work harder, and greatly increase the chances of sudden death. Falling asleep at 11 o’clock on weekdays is the best practice, and it is suggested that a daily sleep of 7 to 8 hours would be optimal.
