Risks of Conceiving Too Soon After Birth Control Pills: Pregnancy Complications Every Woman Should Know

A child born too early after the consumption of birth control pills is likely to face various pregnancy problems such as abnormal fetal development, spontaneous abortion, pregnancy-induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, and placenta previa with ease.

1. Abnormal fetal development : The hormones in the contraceptive pill may result in the interruption of the normal growth process of the embryo. For example, the organs of the embryo are only just starting to form in early pregnancy, and the leftovers of hormones can make the development of the fetus grow to developmental malformations in parts of the limb, heart, nervous system, and so on. Typical neural tube deformities that are mentioned in the literature as sources of anencephaly and spina bifida come from the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube, and the contraceptive pill effects may raise this risk.

2. Abortive : The use of contraceptives is closely linked to the occurrence of abortions in women. In premature pregnancy, the endometrium may still be in the process of recovery after delivery or menstrual cycle, and the thickness is not enough to ensure the normal implantation and development of the embryo. This is like the ground is not fertile enough, the seeds can not grow well, and the embryos tend to have spontaneous abortions after implantation due to lack of nutrients and other reasons.

3. Hypertension in pregnancy : Ingredients in birth control pills can meddle with the hormone system and the function of the blood vessels in pregnant women. After a baby is born prematurely, changes in hormones in pregnant women may continue to strengthen this effect, thus leading to the dysfunction of the vascular constrictors which in turn increases the possibility of hypertension in pregnancy. High blood pressure can impair the health of mothers and fetuses, and in serious cases, can result in symptoms of convulsions and placental abruption in mothers.

4. Gestational diabetes : The pill for birth control might have an impact on the body’s insulin sensitivity. After premature pregnancy, the pregnant woman’s body becomes overburdened with metabolism. The metabolic function that has already been negatively impacted by the contraceptive pill might not be able to catch up with the changes leading to pregnancy, thus causing abnormal blood sugar regulation that consequently incites the development of gestational diabetes. The diabetes during pregnancy can make the baby get too big and thus the risk of dystocia and cesarean section goes up.

5. Placenta previa : Patches for contraception can cause changes in the blood flow and endometrial repair. In premature pregnancy, the fertilized egg that may fall into the poor endometrial environment during implantation to achieve adequate nutrition, thus implant in the lower part of the uterus, forming placenta previa. Pregnant women with placenta previa may have painless vaginal bleeding, which is a serious threat to the lives of mother and fetus.

Hospital Warm reminder: A child born too early after the consumption of birth control pills can cause a variety of pregnancy problems. To ensure the safety of the pregnant woman and the fetus, it is recommended that a physical recovery period be allowed after taking the birth control pills before trying to conceive. If pregnancy is not desired and it happens as a result of contraceptives, then immediate medical attention should be sought, detailed examination and assessment performed and appropriate measures taken under the guidance of a doctor.
