Once any of the human body organs are labeled with the term “cancer,” it appears as if it is going to be haunted by a lingering shadow. And “gastric cancer, the ‘silent killer’ lurking in the digestive system,” is unable to detect the related symptoms in the early stage. When the symptoms get recognized, it might be so advanced that doctors find it hard to treat it with medicine or surgery, which seriously endangers human health.” It is also necessary to recognize that the development of gastric cancer will deliver some precursors via the mouth. If these three discomforts exist in the oral cavity, they probably are not problems of the oral cavity but a warning for us before gastric cancer kills us.

1. The odor in the mouth persists

Bad breath, medically referred to as halitosis, is typically due to some kinds of mouth problems. However, if you experience a rotting-like stench in your mouth that continues all the time and is hard to get rid of, then do not treat it as just another bad breath. This smell is significantly different from typical bad breath, it lasts for a long time and cannot be removed by normal deodorizing methods. The formation of this stubborn odor may be a hint of stomach cancer.

Since cancer cells invade the stomach, abnormal gastric acid is produced, and food in the stomach is combined with digestive juices, thus giving off characteristic spoilage gases that flow upward along the esophagus, resulting in a hateful smell in the mouth

2. Oral ulcers are frequent

Eating irregularly, sleeping late, getting angry quickly, and being stressed can all cause mouth ulcers for no reason, but they usually heal on their own within a few days. It is necessary to be very careful if you suffer from oral ulcers that come back over and over again and cannot be healed. The problem is probably not just in the mouth, but it may also be a signal that cancer cells in the stomach have been spread. The stomach tumor can cause the secretion of gastric juice to become abnormal, and too much gastric acid to accumulate in the stomach. If it goes back to the mouth, it will cause the formation of oral ulcers.

What is more frightening is that due to cancer cells “disintegrating” the immune system of the body, oral ulcers that are difficult to heal, and wounds that are hard to repair over and over again. If you have stubborn oral ulcers like “nail house”, you need to be careful. This may be a distress signal from the stomach.

3. Oral pain

Most people must have experienced oral pain due to damage to the oral mucosa. This pain may be the result of too spicy, too sour food, or getting angry quickly. However, if it is unexplainable and continuous oral pain, and no clear cause is found, then the location of this pain may not be in the mouth, but the tumor of the stomach grows when it presses the peripheral nerves and blood vessels. As the tumor gets bigger, this pain will be like a wild fire that is spreading, slowly moving from the stomach to the oral cavity.

Particularly when gastric cancer has developed to a late stage, the nerves there are more severely compressed or invaded, and the sensation of oral pain is more significant, sometimes causing numbness in the mouth, which is very uncomfortable. So, when frequent and non-obvious triggers of oral pain happen, the best thing to do is to go to a doctor without delay to avoid stomach cancer taking you by surprise.

Oral problems may appear to be insignificant and are frequently overlooked, yet they can be a wake-up call for major illnesses. Today, medicine has uncovered that oral health is closely connected to overall health and can be a signal of various diseases. Taking care of one’s oral health is the first line of defense to defend the health of one’s entire body.
